The federal government has identified 40 Mexican species that represent the ecosystems and species richness of the country. These range from the huge blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus), which cross the Mexican Pacific in their annual migration, to the small but unique lacandonia (Lacandonia schismatica) from the jungles of Chiapas. Most of these species can be found in national and international lists of species at risk. Their conservation is a priority for our country.
