The largest recorded adult males may reach up to 2m tall at the withers and up to 3.8 m in length.
In October 2008, SEMARNAT and representatives from the State Government of Chihuahua toured the north of the state to assess the status of the bison. They found tracks of both adults and calves on the El Berrendo ranch, on the border with New Mexico.
