Bioregionalism. The bioregional perspective first appeared in the 1970's; this believes that care for the environment should be based on local characteristics, and emphasizes the unique environment of each region by promoting the consumption of local products (food, materials) and cultivation of native species in the region to achieve sustainability in harmony with the bioregion. In short, people should be informed about the ecology, economy and culture of the place where they live and should understand that their daily decisions must be made for the benefit of the region.

The bioregional perspective has been driven in the United States by the ecologist and biogeographer Raymond Dasmann (1919-2002) and the environmental activist Peter Berg (1937 - ), creator of the Planet Drum Foundation.
