The georeferencing of locations is assigning geographic coordinates to the textual description of a site (Proctor, Blum, Chaplin, 2001; Wieczorek, 2001).

The CONABIO area of georeferencing adopted the methodology established by Wieczorek (2001), which was developed within the project 'Mammal Networked Information System (MaNIS) conducted

by the museum of vertebrates of the University of California at Berkeley. This methodology was reviewed in detail for the purpose of satisfying the procedures, the cartographic material and the specific nomenclature, for a series of systematic processes.
