• The approach to the State of Morelos was given through the State Commission for Water and Environment (CEAMA) in 2001. On April 3rd, 2001, the State Congress unanimously approved the Point of Agreement through which they adopt the National Strategy on Biodiversity of Mexico and are committed to promote, within its sphere of influence, the implementation of the Strategy in the State of Morelos (June 27th, 2001 in the official newspaper of the State “Tierra y Libertad”). Then, on August 20, 2003, the official newspaper published the point of agreement by which the Legislature XLVIII of Morelos state calls upon the institutions that participated in preparing the basic document of the State Biodiversity Strategy of Morelos to continue with the actions proposed.

The State Biodiversity Strategy was published in 2003 and the State Study of Morelos was published in 2006.

On July 7th, 2008, at the Chapultepec Ecological Park in Cuernavaca, Morelos, an event was held for the signing of the Convention of Implemention of the Biodiversity Strategy of Morelos State, carried out by the Executive Secretary of CONABIO, Maestra Ana Luisa Guzman and the Executive Secretary of the State Commission for Water and Environment of Morelos, Jorge Hinojosa Martínez, in the presence of the Secretary of the State Government of Morelos, Lic. Sergio Álvarez Mata. Furthermore, this agreement has the approval of the State Governor, Dr. Marco Antonio Adame Castillo. These actions contribute significantly to fulfilling the commitments made by Mexico in the Convention on Biological Diversity of the United Nations. In 2001, Morelos was the first state to join the initiative of developing State Biodiversity Strategies promoted by CONABIO (in the Department of Liaison and International Affairs).
